Recently the high-profile Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia (“Jeddah Tower”) declared its planning of rebuilding recently. Thanks to its solid technical strengths and rich experience of ultra-high-rise building construction, Jangho Curtain Wall won the bid of curtain wall design and technical service of this project again, attracting the attention of curtain wall industry all over the world.

The new world’s tallest building

Located at the northern part of Jeddah City, Saudi Arabia and along the coast of the Red Sea, Jeddah Tower is a superscraper integrated with high-end hotel and office. With a total height of 1,007m, this project will become the new world’s tallest building by surpassing Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai.

Designed by the famous US architect Adrian Smith, this project is the key project invested by Kingdom Holding Company under Waleed Bin Talal, the rich prince in Saudi Arabia. JEC recently declared to kick off the construction of this project again after suspension by certain reasons for 7 years. This project is expected to be completed in 2028.

As a leading enterprise in curtain wall industry, Jangho Curtain Wall won the bid of curtain wall design project of Jeddah Tower in 2014, becoming the world’s one and only enterprise designing the curtain wall of building above 1,000m. It has tackled many technical difficulties for this project.

In 2017, Jangho Curtain Wall completed the four tests of curtain walls PMU1 and PMU4 for this project in Guangzhou. During the process above, the performance parameters such as air tightness, water tightness, wind pressure, vibration, anti-condensing, temperature loop test, etc. were tested strictly. Various test results conform to the US standards and even some parameters are higher than the design standard. Therefore, the products have been fully recognized by panel and project general contractor.

The curtain wall for Jeddah Tower is a combination of different curtain walls, such as high-performance unit-type curtain wall with hidden frame, stick curtain wall, cable curtain wall, curved daylighting roof, etc. The design and construction of curtain wall are quite challenging due to the unprecedented height of the project and its location (desert). On the basis of technical breakthroughs, Jiangho Curtain Wall design team has solved many difficulties effectively, such as airtightness and water tightness under large wind pressure, deformation adsorption capacity of unit against earthquake, and structure safety against extremely high temperature and ultra-high rise.
